I was looking for a fax machine that had a cordless phone with a speaker phone feature. It is very simple to hook-up and use.
I don't get a lot of faxes so that didn't matter to me but for those that want their current system to handle voice messages this could be a factor. The buttons are easy enough to use in most modes although I found in speaker mode when you have to press a variety of buttons to drill down in the automated systems that the communication between the phone and the automated services becomes jumbled.
It performs adequately on all measures but is far from best of breed in any category. The range is pretty good on the cordless phone (easily 50'+) and sound quality is fine but certainly not on par with higher end models. I can't see how to override that feature so I had to set it to a manual mode (turns off answering machine).
In the context of looking for a an all-in-one without spending a lot of money, the KX-FG2451 fits the bill. The choices were fairly limited but the Panasonic appeared to offer the best mixture of features and price.
Lastly, the one issue is setting it to answer faxes automatically entails having the phone become the answering machine, too.
Perfect for my work needs in my small boutique. I've been looking for a cordless phone, fax, answering machine, was told that it didn't exist, but it does and this is it. Ordered this phone and the first one came in broked which left me skeptical. was not a huge deal to exchange and the new one works great. I am sooo happy with this phone.
Hopefully Panasonic will continue to manufacture it. I searched every possible store in my area and could not find a phone that met our needs. I'm so happy. This machine is perfect. It replaces the same machine (older model) that gave us many good years. Amazon was the only source for this model.
Eventually the clip broke and I had to replace the machine. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that after awhile, I had problems putting in a new ribbon. But considering the price and all its capabilities, 5 years is probably a very good lifetime for a machine that is used constantly. I have had this model before and have been very pleased with its capabilities. It is the only machine with a Cordless Phone, which allows for convenience and flexibility. The last year of its life involved saying a prayer that it would click in and work again.
We went to Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy and Radio Shack without luck. Unfortunately, perhaps due to ubiquitous cell phones, nobody sells a fax with a cordless phone any more. The price was good, it works great and my dad is happy. Evidently Panasonic is one, maybe the only, fax maker that still makes a fax with a cordless phone. My 90-year-old father had a fax with a cordless phone (also a Panasonic) for about 10 years and when the old one died, he insisted on getting the same or similar one. So I did the internet thing and found this fax on Amazon.
